The Poet-Sleeve Robe is made from pure linen. It has an oversized fit, and loose, billowing sleeves with a fitted cuff. The robe has pockets in the side seams and is French seamed throughout. It features detailed metal charm buttons on the centre front and is unlined, lending it a light and airy feel. The robe can be worn open as a jacket or buttoned and worn as a dress. This versatile piece will feel at home anywhere from the beach to the city.
This design is based around ancient Greek art, pottery, poetry and literature. The back of the robe features a shining, leaping dolphin, representing Delphinus, the selfless saviour of Arion, a character of ancient Greek myth. Delphinus wears a string of golden stars and carries with him a Kithara, the stringed musical instrument of the poet. Below Delphinus is depicted a wooden trireme, an ancient Greek seafaring vessel, inspired by those described in the Homeric epic, The Iliad. Below the ship appear the eyes of Pallas Athene watching over sweet Delphinus, fallen from a statue in her honour. The central feature is surrounded by an arc of nautical details; from shells and iridescent flying fish, to sculpted vessels and vases, all crowned by a shimmering octopus. The assortment of ocean treasures is echoed along the base and centre front of the design, bordered by a detailed design inspired by ancient Greek vase painters. This is accompanied by a layer of terracotta treasures overgrown with vibrant sea flowers. Ocean-inspired coins from various towns in ancient Greece line the hem and cuffs of this robe.
